What to do when you are stopped by law enforcment:

  • Take advantage of your constitutional rights: REMAIN SILENT AND DO NOT MAKE ANY ADMISSIONS OR EXPLANATIONS.
  • Do NOT agree to searches; absent a valid search warrant.
  • Ask to speak to your attorney - call us immediately at 1-888-926-3720.
  • The police are NOT your friends; they may try to befriend you; don't fall for it.
  • Don’t get into an argument with the police.
  • Remember, anything you say or do can and WILL be used against you.
  • Keep your hands where the police can see them.
  • Don’t run. Don’t touch any police officer.
  • Don’t resist even if you believe you are innocent.
  • Don’t complain on the scene or tell the police they’re wrong or that you’re going to file a complaint.
  • Write down everything you remember as soon as you are able.
  • Make a list of witnesses & their phone numbers.
  • If you are injured, take photographs of the injuries as soon as possible, but make sure you seek medical attention first.
