What to do when you are stopped by law enforcment:
- Take advantage of your constitutional rights: REMAIN SILENT AND DO NOT MAKE ANY ADMISSIONS OR EXPLANATIONS.
- Do NOT agree to searches; absent a valid search warrant.
- Ask to speak to your attorney - call us immediately at 1-888-926-3720.
- The police are NOT your friends; they may try to befriend you; don't fall for it.
- Don’t get into an argument with the police.
- Remember, anything you say or do can and WILL be used against you.
- Keep your hands where the police can see them.
- Don’t run. Don’t touch any police officer.
- Don’t resist even if you believe you are innocent.
- Don’t complain on the scene or tell the police they’re wrong or that you’re going to file a complaint.
- Write down everything you remember as soon as you are able.
- Make a list of witnesses & their phone numbers.
- If you are injured, take photographs of the injuries as soon as possible, but make sure you seek medical attention first.
